Purchase Hifiman 400i's; with difference in $$, purchase Emotiva A-100 (BasX) amplifier (and still have left over $$!) .
If you must have Senn's -the 800S would be closer in performance to 400i's.

Just kidding. At $229. (US$), Emotiva A-100 (BasX) would be the ticket. With the enormous $$ saved, better IC cables, heck even a dedicated Balanced/Symmetrical AC power supply/"conditioner" could be considered with the left-over money from many of the (very) high-priced alternatives.
With a few exceptions, most can amp's are disturbingly over-priced -no real reason/logic for such inflated prices.
In fact, some of these compact amps are so pricey, one could consider products from Schiit: Freya preamp coupled to an amplifier of your choice.

Real design. Real value -and real performance.

I don't have the HD800 anymore (but I owned a couple of them for 5 years), and the Apex Pinnacle with an RCA VT100 tube (a 6NS7 variant) was really good to excellent. It adds a degree of bloom and silkyness and size to vocals (and other images) that the HD800 sorely needs IMHO.

Any type of fire would be great for the 800 model. I'd keep the 800(S) away from the flames however.

ECP sells direct or one can DIY it. Ive seen a few come up used in these forums but too bad they are 120V.
