What's the best amp combo with a Grado SR80 and 325?

Hi,

I currently have a SR80 and am considering an amp in the very near future. I've heard a lot of talk about the new superMini v6.2### and how it supposedly is better than a portable META.

For the Grado people in here, what amp works best with an SR80 and a 325(which I am also considering as a next purchase)? Should I even worry about getting an amp suitable for a SR80 and instead, just focus on a good amp that solely drives the 325?

I am really into portability, which is my main concern since I don't have much room to store my audio gear. If that helps. Thanks for the input guys and gals!

I know nothing about amps....I get the impression that the Grado RA-1 would help both the Grado SR80 and 325 sound better.....you'll probably find what you're looking for in the amp forum...it might be a bit difficult to find, but try searching for any threads on this subject.....

To buy or to build? Probably either the RA-1 or an A47. The latter you'd have to build or commission, the former you'd save a few hundred bucks with a clone.

I find that a META42 powers my low-impedence V6s well...though I haven't heard much about META/Grado combinations.

Make sure you're looking for the 325's sound over the 225's. That's the best question. Other than that, my Meta sounds good with the 225's and previous 80's, but I have no other amp experience (except for the similar Mint).

Duncan uses his RS1 with META42. Therefore I think it should be ideal.

how about the new Fixup supermini 6.2? i've heard a lot about them as being a good challenger to the meta42 portable

If you want strictly a portable amp, I'd inquire about a mint tin Cha-47. These amps were made pretty much specifically for Grados. I used mine when I owned Grado's and it was a dream match.

There are a number of people who build amps here on the boards. IMO JMT is the king, but I don't think he's making Cha's anymore.

You might want to head over to Mall-Fi to see what services are available there. Generally the pricing isdiscussed between the builder and the buyer.
