What's next?

I have recently acquired the DT770/80. Now, spending more money on this isn't in the immediate future but.. would the next step be getting a decent amp or getting them darthed?

You can't use a Darth Beyer without a hefty amp... like MisterX's Pimeta amps, I believe.... or maybe mSeed Spirit amp.

So, amp first.

if you are getting them out of your soundcard, i would say - some amp!

Get an amp first, no need for Darthing yet...

YES! They should get much better with a decent solid state amp.
