i thought i would never spend more than 50 bucks on headphones....
and then i bought sr-80; even this was too much for me to take...
loved the sound, never experienced anything like this before...

and then, head-fi.org came next by pure accident
the result; here i am with ms-2 and hd595

Assuming you already have a good amp... I would suggest a K240s or HF1.
thats the direction I went after my MS2.

basically... a notch down in aggressiveness with the K240 and a notch up in agressiveness with the HF1. IMHO both have slightly more soundstage image than the MS2.

MS2 is flatter and dry across the spectrum. HF1 is very colored by comparison... foreward mids and more bass impact. MS2 gives the illusion of deeper sub-bass extension, but I think thats more a byproduct of its less aggressive bass. HF1 kick drum is massive and yet articulate and airy at the same time. Mids are noticeably more colored in the HF1... more foreward, stand out of the mix more. But IMHO its not harsh like the MDRV6 or DT770 can be.

I would say its a noticeably different signature presentation, at the same clarity / quality level... similar levels in detail resolution.

DT770 is a very massive, aggressive sounding can. Upper mids are a bit exagerated from 1000-6000Hz. Bass kick is massive and "thuds" with authority. Sub bass extends like no other. Its a very... heavy, weighted sounding can. With a good dose of upper midrange to balance it out a little. Bass tones are thick... upright acoustic bass can sound a little like electric bass at times.

By comparison the K240s is very "airy" sounding. (note I cut a hole out of my cloth driver cover to open up the mids and treble) Upper mids while slightly foreward are airy and articulate. Treble sparkles more than the DT770. Bass is massive but not in a DT770 "thuddy" sounding way... doesn't have that massive pounding effect that the DT770 has. The K240s acoustic upright bass is airy and resonant and certainly does not sound like electric bass.

take a trip to guitar center or sam ash many times they have an AKG laying around to demo.

Try a pair of Sennheiser HD580's. If you like them upgrade to the 650's. If you don't sell them. Those are headphones I highly suggest everyone to try.

Also, what is the main type of music you listen to? I might be able suggest a few others.

i guess.. i mainly listen to rock/metal...
something like rush and dream theater and so on
but then, i do listen to other things also, some jazz some RnB
and some oldies like rolling stones and so on
rolleyes.gif

there are three versions for dt770s
one with 80 and 250ohms and something else...
which one would be the best choice, amped
(250 ones on sale for 150-160s on amazon...)

240s; i guess the lowest u can get this is about 80-90, new one that is

i thought i wouldnt be interested in HF-1s but after readinG Kramers post,
theres little change in mind that my wallet wouldnt like

still deciding between the two:
dt 770 and akg 240s
$150 vs $90

what do u guys say?

regarding HD650s and RS-1s,
i think i should wait for them to pop up on the FS thread

amped, 770/250 would sound better than 770/80?
higher impedance doesnt neccessarily mean better, sound does it?
