What's more important than hi-fi?

Life, that's what!

I'm sitting at a café right now with my wonderful girlfriend, and I'm loving it. I have my Master's exams in a week, and I've been studying a lot lately. She asked me this morning if she could study with me after I got out of my class this afternoon. So here I am, and there she is.

You may be wondering why this is of any significance. Well, my Alessandro MS-1s were to come in the mail today, and I had planned to go straight home after school to wait for their arrival.

For a split-second, I actually thought about telling my girlfriend, "No, honey, I'm going to head home to wait for some headphones after school today." And then I quickly realized how ridiculous that was! I haven't been able to spend much time with her lately because of these exams, and here she is asking if she can come be with me while I'm studying!

So I missed the Alessandro's, and will have to go pick them up at the post office sometime this weekend probably... and I couldn't be happier!

One of my favorite songs has a line that goes something like this:

I get on the train heading downtown, experiencing life in surround sound...

Basically any sound, no matter how hi-fi, is inferior to the world around us. This is one reason why I have absolutely no interest in portable audio - random chatter and the world around me is so much more interesting

in the long run, we're all pretty insignificant anyway.

however it comes down to do what you can enjoy, so long as it doesn't come at the expense of another person. If you can recognize what makes you happy, then you're a lot better off than many people.

Besides from being absolutely right -- why are you on a laptop posting on the internet if you're in a café with your girlfriend?

Music is very important in my life. I listen to music everyday to relax after a long working day, and when I was in college I couldn't concentrate in my studies without music. If I can listen to music for a few days in a row for any reason, my mood goes down. Yeah, there are more important things in life, like love and health. But there are moments when I would change a girlfriend for music, I need to be alone from time to time.

But as others have said, put your laptop aside and give som attention to your girlfriend in your study breaks!

Exactly.

This is hilarious. Irony at it's finest.

"I've discovered what is truly important in life! I could be at home with my new headphones but instead I have chosen to spend some time with my significant other. I am so thoughtful. Did I mention that I'm posting this from my laptop at Starbuck's while she stares at a cup of coffee?"

Irony indeed. This fellow has good headphones, a girlfriend, a laptop, and he's going for his Masters degree. All you people can do is wave your collective butts at him. I applaud him!
