There have been a couple of headphone amps on the market recently that say they can "Drive the K-1000." I'm speaking of the new TTVJ amp (drool!) and the Music Fidelity X-Can v8.
My question is this... what has changed in amp design to make these different from regular headphone amps? My understanding is that you need a speaker amp to drive them... if it's a speaker amp, how can it still be a headphone amp? I thought the levels of power were day and night. How do you drive a normal headphone with that kind of power? Are you able to only turn the amp up to 10% and then you're gambling with your cans? Is there any chance that the "You can only drive them with a speaker amp" theory is exaggerated?
I'm really curious about this because I've always wanted to get some K-1000, but I have no desire to buy a speaker amp.
