Wow... they certainly weren't cheap -- were those MSRP or street prices? If the latter, we've really got it good these days compared to a decade ago!

I've always felt though that I could pay $500 for my DT880s without feeling ripped off... IMO they're even more a bargain at their current selling price than the HD580.

hmm, I'd definitely feel ripped off if I paid 500 for DT880s, but hey, YMMV

I think they are the MSRP prices, I got the numbers off of Stereophile.

MSRP is what the manufacture first suggested they sell for, street price is what yo ucan actually buy them on the market for.

For example the MSRP on the Sennheiser HD650s is $549 but you can buy them from stores such as Headroom and TTVJ for around $330.

What I meant is that I feel it's $500 worth of sound (whatever that means). Sure, I'd feel ripped off if I knew the price was $225 and they were charging $500... well, you know what I mean. I've had the DT880 for almost six months, and they are still impressing me. I'm still discovering new things about them, and about the music I listen to with them (this stopped happening with the K501 less than month after I got 'em).

Hhaha, poor bastards back then thought that 500 dollars for a headphone was a rip off....

Ooops, did I just revive a thread that's been dead for almost 10 years?
