What is the going market price for the headphone/amp Orpheus package these days?

I ask because I stumbled upon a set at a local shop for what seems to be a great price of $7000 Canadian. (About $5650 US current exchange)

What do you guys think?

I wouldn't pay much for them, but I've never been particularly interested in them. Personally, no phones are worth $5000; I could buy a nice car with that cash.

I think we actually agree on something. No headphone for 5,000 could meet my expectation..

I think you buy these phones as a deep pocketed collector. They are as beautiful and rare as they get. Is anyone actually interested in buying these? I'm pretty sure my gf would break up with me if I bought them, even at that price!

That's less than the HE90 usually goes for around here. Still, I wouldn't pay that much for headphones. I think there's a Magnepan 20R pair going for $4,500 on Audiogon. That's what I'd get. Or I'd buy a vintage car to wrench on or maybe put it down on some real estate.

With that kind of money you could buy one of the last Pioneer Elite Kuro Plasma TV's and still have lots of scratch to rig it up with.
