What would be even better sounding then an RSA XP-7 in the battery amp market?

My only criteria is that it needs to be battery driven because I like to move it around the house and the garden without having to plug it. It doesn't need to be portable, don't really care about the size, battery life, can also be tube or SS.

I like my XP-7 but now that I upgraded from W1000 to W5000, I wonder if I could get myself something that sounds even nicer then the XP-7. And yes I have rolled some opamps in my XP-7.

By the way, my sources are an RWA Imod and an RWA Squeezebox2. I also have a Tomahawk for portability. I used to have a Rudistor amp and an SR71 but I prefered the XP-7 sound. I like lush mids, non aggressive highs and tight bass.

Thanks for your help. It's always a lot of fun to ask advice from the pros of upgraditis here at head-fi for an upgrade you don't really need!

Which OP-Amps are you using in the XP-7?

Lisa 3 is useless for the w5000. Larocco PRII does a better job. RSA amps do the best of all the portable amps with w5000 honestly.

I've used 627, 637 but the one I like best is the ad797 which I'm using now.

Is the HR2 a good step up from the XP-7?

By the way, not looking for "portable", just battery driven. Would be fun if Red Wine Audio would make one of their speaker Signature amps for headphones!!!

LISA III is not available yet so i do not think any one has Listened to it with the Possible Exception of The Head-fi International Meet where two Prototypes were available, but meet conditions are not the Best place to evaluate sound quality because of the High Ambient noise.

If there is a better (and smaller) portable amp than the XP-7 I need to buy it. I have gone back to an SR-71 (through the buy/ sell cycle), but the XP-7 is the class of (trans) portables I have heard.

I A/B'd the XP-7 and HR-2 for about 2 hours in January. I enjoyed the HR-2 more, but by a very slight margin. The 2 sound very similar- I believe the difference is less than that of the SR-71 and XP-7 (although I never A/B'd these 2 amps).

The Larocco may be something to research, just on reputation, but I haven't heard it.
