I currently have a nice little Chu-Moy by Twinstarr and I think it works pretty nicely as far as amplification goes and running my Ety's with the converter. I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight into what sort of benefits I would find from purchasing a more complex, and more expensive headphone amp? I'm using a Rio Karma as a source with most of my music encoded in FLAC and Vorbis at a high bit rate. I'm considering something by Headroom, maybe something like a total airhead. I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has had the opportunity to compare a chu-moy to a higher end amp if they could tell me what differences they were able to observe.

Well, I don't know anything about the quality of sound the Rio Karma provides, but a better amp along with a source and cans of equal quality provides more extnsion, the sound becomes more airy, detail and soundstage improve.
In general, everything gets better. I can't believe how much my old style MPX3 can improve by just putting better tubes in.
