I have an appointment at UE Irvine to get the a 3D ear scan and try out their CIEM's in a few weeks.

I'm wondering if anyone has done this, and if so, what should I expect?

I'm planning to just bring my LG V35 Thinq phone ( < 1 ohm output impedance) loaded with my FLAC collection of music as well as the usual spotify streaming.

I really have no budget and will buy anything up to the UE live or 18+ if I think they sound the best. Presently my Futursonics MG5hx is my only CIEM, and while I like it OK, I think I would like a custom that's closer in tuning to my Vega. I really want to try everything from the UE7 on up and see what I like the best, although I realize this could be fatiguing to do in one afternoon.

It's my understanding that they have an Ipad that can simulate their entire lineup using a signal processor.

Should I bring some spinfit or comply eartips for auditioning on universals?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has done this.

Hi

Take the Vega along, let them listen to it and ask if they have anything available that's similar. Failing that it could be worth shooting them an email in advance (or give them a ring) to discuss what it is you are actually looking for in a ciem.

Have fun.

Envious of the digital scanning thing, hope it works out for you!

I didn't do any auditioning, just the digital impressions.

The UE18+ Pro just ranked #8 in Nic's thread at that time so I didn't bother to audition based on time constraints:

You may want to see if you have the option to purchase a 2nd generation UE18+ while you are auditioning. The 3rd generation UE18+ and Live do not have favorable impressions:

But there are very few impressions of both the 3G and Live at this time so sample size very small.

I had a similar experience as the videos below:

i think this guy posts in the UERR thread:

It should give you an idea what to expect...

Thanks! Yeah - the mixed reviews on the new 18+ v3 and the Live are leaving me a bit perplexed about what to get. I'm following all the threads on the Live, 18, etc. I'm going to to start out on the UE18+/live and work my way down the line all the way to the UE7 if I have the time and ear endurance. My preferences don't always correlated with the most expensive thing available.

I don't think your obligated to purchase when you get digital impressions. I don't remember as I was picking up a "Out of Warranty Repair" on my UE10 that I purchased back in 2005. So I went there to pick up my UE10s and get digital impressions, but don't recall when I ordered the UE18+ Pro. I just remember ordering the UE18+ Pro online.

That's what is great about UE. After a dozen years after purchase, I can still get a checkup on my old customs for a flat fee of $99.

You may want to create an UE account.

After your digital impressions, you will have a Impression Number on file. If your not quite sure, I think you can order online via PayPal at another time after your extensive audition. Nice audition plan BTW.

My Impression Number is on file, so I'm prepared now when discounts roll around. Black Friday is around 20% and last CanJam was 40%. At the discounted rate, it's easier to justify taking a chance on the 3rd Gen / Live to offset risk.

My hope is for the next UE Reference (UERM, UERR) since I'm not quite sure on 3G and Live.
