At the moment I have my iTunes import encoder customized to AAC format 320kbps (stereo) 48khz sample rate. But my question is, should I switch to the Apple Lossless or other format?

I just recently realized that iTunes had custom settings and now have to re-import all of my CDs, but before I do that I wanna make sure I have the setting on the highest SQ possible.

Thanks.

If you want better quality I suggest you use EAC to extract CDs. Afterwards you can choose your preferred encoder. (FLAC, ALAC, mp3) I myself like to archive CD lossless. If you've got the HDD space I can recommend that.

Here is a guide for setting up EAC.

Just choose Apple Lossless and you are ready to go. You will get big file sizes though, might be time for a bigger drive.

Just import to Apple Lossless.
The files will be noticeable bigger than with AAC. But there will be no data, and hence quality, loss

Thanks guys.

What I had meant to ask was, is Apple Lossless truely lossless. Instead it came out like above.

But you answered it anyway lol. Thanks again.

BTW - Space is no issue. 500 GB HDD.
