I have jvc-hadx1000. I am happy with my pair but would love to have a pair of headphones more neutral and more suitable for classical music.Jvc's are not bad but as all closed cans they lack the certain airyness. I'm quite happy with the mids with my jvc, could be better though. Also I am looking for more realistic treble presentationg. I have come to the conclusion that senn hd800 would be a nice complementary headphone for jvc. Or vice versa. Anyway... I have my mind set on hd 800 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD800-Over-Ear-Circum-Aural-Headphone/dp/B001OTZ8DA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376084531&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+hd800
musical fidelity amp m1-hpa

and musical fidelity dac

I've heard musical fidelitys are a good match for hd800. I currently have xiang sheng dac-01a which is the same as highly regarded maverick dac 01. I'm quite happy with the sound, but I don't have much to compare it to. I think there would be a lot to be achieved with better amp and dac. I'm comfortable ordering from china and buying used. I'm from eu so sennheiser stuff is more reasonably priced here...compared to stuff like grado which are ridiculously priced here.
I would love the amp to have crossfeed and balanced out incase I end up tweaking th senns and jvc. Those are not a must have but if I have to stretch my budget a bit to get those I'm listening. It can be a tube amp. Love the looks with tube amps, allthough I'm not familiar with the so called tube sound. Also the dac is more important than amp. Someday I will hopefully have an apartment where I can use speakers and I hope the dac I'm buying now would be my be all end all dac.
So here it goes... for about 3000$ what is the best system I can get? Cheaper the better. Keep in mind I have the jvc's to take care of the bass department, I'm looking for something more suitable for classical and general listening. A lot of it will be 80's rock music...Im open to all suggestions. I disliked k701 (for the price I think hm5 with velours is on par). I Like old grado sr125 (not the i version). Loved senn hd600....but I found dx1000 to be better in all regards. Besides hd800 I've been thinking about lcd2 but do I really wan't that? I mean...I got the bass stuff covered with jvc. I do love the ortho sound though.. I have few vintage orthos. Dang it... Please help!
Edit: even though I said I have the bass covered with jvc I don't wan't a headphone that lack bass too bad. Doesn't need to be bass heavy..no no.. Just that the bass is firm and impactfull. Grado sr125 and somich mh463 deliver more realistic bass than jvc dx1000, jvc's bass is bit too pluffy and round around the edges if thats any way to describe it. looking for a bit more realisim in that department too. I guess hd800 would suffice? Besides lcd2 I've thought about maddogs..I't kind of hard to believe that 100$ headphone modded to 300$ could match 1400$ headphone.
