Got some SR-80s about a month ago. Got my HD485s back from RMA and WOW, SR80s just lack TONS of bass. When I try to EQ some bass either on my receiver (sliders on front, Pioneer VSX-401, alt.out AV710, med-high MP3 and FLAC), or in Foobar with the 30-band VST editor EQ, I get garbage.

The HD-485s respond WELL to this setup and have TONS of bass, even w/o EQ in Foobar, and almost have to turn down the EQ on the receiver.

They sound clear and everything but have NO BASS, and are same ohms as the HD485s.

Man, these things almost sound like ****** earbuds with no bass!!!
Everything is perfect with the SR80s and can hear everything in the track but it is seems to be missing 20-80hz range.
Yes, they have been burnt in with pink noise for over 4 days (said 5D in Foobar after I reset it for the burn in "session" for the SR-80s but some of that was just listening to them)

Looking at the curves; the HD485 are designed to have tons of bass. It's just their nature.

HD485 bass is just overpowered, upfront, the rest of the sound killer.

SR80 bass is just like it suppose to be, nice and tight

You just a BASS HEAD, I guess.

Yup. HD485 has a very boosted bass and you are most likely used to (unnaturally) huge amounts of bass I guess. Grados have more balanced bass with a slight hump in low-midbass for extra bassdrum kick. If you want mid-upperbass booooom, Grados wont be your thing, not atleast with Bowl pads. However, you gotta try TTVJ Flat pads. They totally change the tonal balance from highs-prominent to bass-prominent. Its wierd how just pads can alter the sound that much.

Lower range Grados roll of pretty quick from 60Hz though, subbass has always been their problem.

A CMoy can't supply the current that a SR-80 needs. That's why Apheared started building buffered CMoys like the A47, and the rest is headphone amp history. Something like an XP or the Mini3 would get you there - the AD8397 is a real current monster. Most of the mid-level portables that have buffered outputs like a LISA III or similar would do it, too.
