I've heard a nicely restored pair of Boston Acoustics A70 for right around $200. They sounded bloody gorgeous - I was told they're a classic, and it's obvious why, after a listen.
I also have a set of Avid Model 110 speakers (no relation to the current manufacturer of high end turntables), restored for $50, that serve as TV speakers and sound wicked good for the money.
For the main 2ch setup I went all out on a pair of the Tannoy Kensington SE, with matching ST200 super-tweeters. It just nails my personal ideals of sonics & style.
