What range of DACs would be an improvement over Pioneer DV-45A?

I am upgrading my setup from the AT A900s I got at the start of college just running from the Pionner DVD-A/V SACD player (just stopped selling at about $350 new and has been replaced by a similarly priced model) and plan on getting the Beyer DT880/600s from the Manufacture site and am trying to work out the rest of the system. I have also been considering moving to using my computer as a source (will encode in FLAC) to a USB DAC. I'm curious what I would need to spend to improve upon my Pioneer's output and is it possible to output full SACD resolution via SPDIF to be decoded by a DAC? The reason I am posting is using my computer, especially at college seems very convenient but also seems to be holding me back from being able to afford a better amp like the RSA HR-2 (so tempting to lose the wallet like everyone says).

SACD cannot go out over SPDIF due to DRM and possibly also bandwidth considerations. Not sure if SPDIF can do DSD either.

I have a DV-45A using a PreSonus Central Station for the DAC. I hear a nice improvement over the DAC inside the Elite so I imagine it wouldn't be to hard to find a DAC to better what the Elite offers.

I paid $500 for my 45A when it was first released. I didn't think they were still in production. I bought the CS for $400...not bad at all for all that it does.

I believe they stopped selling a little over a year ago but could be wrong. I do know that I inherited it when my dad replaced it with the 46 which includes HDMI and upscaling. Thanks for the comparison.

I only had a minute to respond earlier, would it be possible to give a little more detail on what improved? Thanks!

You said it- DETAIL

With levels matched using the analog output & digital output from the Elite I can quickly switch between the 2 connections. I simply hear more detail,it easily sounds better. Sorry, I'm not into these fancy review terms.

Ah yes, DT-880 has very good detail. I don't plan to ever sell mine.
