The Sony NW-A608. Has 2Gb as well, but much superior battery life, up to 50 hours! and here in germany it cost the same as the Nano

I use the iPod Shuffle 1gb. It weighs next to nothing, and it's easy to use. I kind of wish that it had a display, but then it wouldn't be so small.

Oh, and it sounds pretty damn good too...pretty good product IMHO.

I know a fair number of folks who do that and it works just fine for them too. I'm just too spooked about hard drives and moving parts to go that route.

Yes, but from what I hear it's cheaper for a REASON. I'd like to pick up a 4GB version, but I've not heard the best things re) sound quality. I'd love to be wrong about that, but haven't heard otherwise. Have you used one and compared it to the Shuffle?

What's a "gym"?

A friend says she goes to one of those "gym" things -- she alternates two Creative flash players (one black, one red), and loves the ease of operation, pretty good sound (she doesn't like the music they play there), and compact size and light weight. (She uses her Rio Carbon when not at the gym.)

And battery life is no joke with these Sonys. I have one of the predecessors to your player, the NW-E505 and did two battery tests on my own a few months ago.

Fully charged e505 with 192kbps along with some 256/320 and 75% volume using KSC-35s yielded 55+ hours each time. Very impressive.

Just got an IRiver T30 for the gym. So far it seems just right. Its very light & small & stays in my pocket. 1g capacity is just fine for gym use. The buttons don't stick out so I'm not accidently pushing them but they are easy access when I want to change something quickly. Can load it up directly from explorer & thats quick & easy too.

I have trouble using a mp3 player and lifting, while it does help you concentrate more...I just feel I lose too much awareness.

But when I run I use an old school original Nomad MuVo 128mb...it gets the job done.

I just use my Zen Micro. It's a little weighty, but I can handle it. When I'm on the bike (I am loathe to run

), I just sit it in the cupholder. When lifting weights, it just goes into my pocket. Though it adds a small inconvenience, listening to music I like really adds a lot of intensity to my workout.
