My father has a pair of HD-580 that I left him several years ago.

He says the replacement cable has already broken at the point it goes into the earpiece and I can see that the padding on the earpieces and band has no "air" ie. it's no longer really padding.

Currently I'm in the UK but I live in the US. Is it easier to find replacement parts in the US than the UK? Is there anywhere in London where I can get these restored?

I can see Amazon sells replacement cables but if they are similar to the original they too will originally break.

Heya,

I replaced my HD580's cables a few years ago for $18 by buying them Sennheiser's USA website. You can also buy replacement pads. I think the HD600/650 share pads, so you can hunt them down from retailers or ebay. I'm sure it's easy here in the States. But I'd imagine you being in the UK would make things more available?

Very best,

I remember reading the past that Sennheiser will completely refurbish a pair for ~$70.

If this is still the case, this would probably be your best option as they would replace the earpads (~$45), headband pad (~$10), cable (~$25 for hd600 cable, or ~$12 for hd650 cable), and also check the condition of the drivers.

Edit: I found their service form.  http://www.sennheiserusa.com/service/ServiceRequest_CE.pdf

Step 1. Throw them in the trash

Step 2. Go to www.pricejapan.com and buy a SR-407

With that restoration method you will have better sound than even a brand new HD-580

Yes, get a HD-650 cable from Sennheiser and new pads. They're compatible with the 600/650 and you can change them out at home. No need to have someone else do it.
