What makes you a head-fier (why do you search for great sound)?

I found myself wondering the above question the other day, and wanted to see what got other head-fiers on the path to perpetual spending in the quest for the perfect sounding setup.

Personally, I couldn't really tell you...I just enjoy my music, no reason really and no moment of musical epiphany...yet that is

I would like to try to build a portable rig, but the budget doesn't permit it at the moment, so I have to live vicariously through the rest of you =P

So what about the rest of you? Any of you professional musicians with a finely tuned ear perhaps?

I want listening to my musical to be magical, & leave my ears in awe like HD has done with my eyes.. I want the musical to engulf my mind, body, & soul.. & make me physically feel things I never felt before.. I feel a GS-X & a balanced K1000 along with my DAC1 could get me there.. thats about 3,500.

I enjoy listening to music. I want to achieve better sound quality because...it sounds better. Speakers bug everybody else in the house, and I can't listen to them at night. So, I turned to headphones.

Did I misunderstand the question or something?

I like music, but I probably could've gotten through life without Head-Fi or this ridiculous hobby.

But then I was introduced to the forum. Then to a nice pair of headphones. And from there it all fell apart

because I still can't get that perfect clarinet sound from my system. That, and i now feel like i have a stake in the hobby.

Simply put, goose bumps and cold chills.

Luckily, it happens fairly often.

Because I love music! Simple as that really...

I love my music and I want my music to sound just like I think it should.

It puzzles me when I see people saying 'I just got some new headphones, give me some music to make them sound good', because that's totally backwards. Buy gear for your music and music for yourself, not music for your gear.
