- audiophile: you have all the highest end equipment, and diy tweaks, and mainly listen at home.

- enthusiast: you may not have the best equipment, but you know a lot about it. you do most of your listening at home.

- portable enthusiast: you have all the latest portable gadgets, and good headphones for the job. you do most of your listening on the go.

- newbie: your last pair of heapdhones came with your walkman.

- nutcase: what the hell are headphones good for?! i just come here to rant!!!

i know not everybody will fit into these catagories, but pick one that comes close to describing you. if you can think of others, please share.

What I am isn't on there. I really just use headphones as an excuse to play around with electronics.

I guess second to that I'm an enthusiast.

enthusiast i guess. my stuff isn't that great, but it's pretty good and a bit more extensive than the normal person's headphone collection.

Well, enthusiast is the closest match for me, since my rig isn't audiophile (but it's pretty close), nor is it portable. But it's at work, not at home.

Since I have a 400-disc megachanger and tube headphone amp in my cubicle, would that make me a nutcase?

Now I just need to figure out how to get my portable health club rig (Aiwa MD + Sony MDR-A106) to sound better...

I debated on whether I am an enthusiast or a portable enthusiast. I do a lot of listening away from home, but I am working on tweaks for my home system. I think the recent acquisition of a META42 is what changed me to the home system. So I am just an enthusiast, with tendancies toward portables.

Enthusiast here...

Since sorting out my HD580s, my portable setup hasn't really had too much of a look in lately...

Only one admitted audiophile so far? No one wants to own up, huh?

I put myself in the enthuthiast column. Although I'm something more of a newbie-enthuthiast. I know all the names of the great gear, but I have experience with only a smidgen of that gear (reading reviews and analyzing data will only take you so far).

My friends and family look at me funny though when I spout off model names for recommendations... and I feel rather dorky.

I don't seem to fit any of those categories...

I haven't used headphones much before my Sennheisers, so I'd think I'm a newbie... but sennheisers are much better than "the ones that came with my walkman". So am I enthusiast then? I really don't know that much about headphones nor related equipment. But I'm learning fast and this site has already encouraged to get a headphone amp so I'll select that then.

Maybe a rookie option would be good.

Somewhere between enthusiast and audiophile, mainly because of no DIY tweaks.
