What is your favorite John Lennon Solo album?

My two faves as well, with Rock N Roll coming in 3rd. I picked Plastic Ono Band because of the intensity of emotions. And finishing with God then My Mummy's Dead was just devastating.

I voted Plastic Ono Band! It was one John Lennon's finest album. Correct me if I'm wrong, he was with Yoko Ono in making this album. As to the success of this album, it received high critical praise upon releasing. This album was so successful... In one article that I read, it was ranked 22nd in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Album of All Time in 2003.

Double Fantasy.
I feel the harmony of John and Yoko.
The age caught up though it thought Yoko to be eccentric. To the way of B-52 's.

There was a boxed set which came out in like 1990 called LENNON.....and the fourth disc was a wonderful disc.....It was a run-through of all the Lennon material from Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey and it excluded all of Yoko's tracks.....essentially it could be looked at as the real last album Lennon ever recorded......the sequence was this...

1. Just Like Starting Over
2. Cleanup Time
3. I'm Losing You
4. Beautiful Boy
5. Watching The Wheels
6. Woman
7. Dear Yoko
8. I'm Steppin' Out
9. I Don't Wanna Face It
10. Nobody Told Me
11. Borrowed Time
12. (Forgive Me) My Little Flower Princess
13. Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him (as sung by John from Milk & Honey)
14. Grow Old With Me

.....this run through in my opinion is a brilliant album. All these songs were recorded within a 4 week period and in my opinion this makes it a legitimate album regardless of the fact that it is a compilation. If you like this material please consider compiling your own mix of this run through. The only tough part is that I'm Losing You runs straight into I'm Movin' On on Double Fantasy, you will have to use a wave editor to fade it out yourself......But otherwise this is a great album to try making

Plastic Ono Band without any doubt, for me.
Actually, I´m sure that album is the most listened musical piece in my life. It´s a difficult album to approach. He did n´t care about expectations at all. Still, it´s extremely rewarding album.

He obviously was very disappointed because the album did not sell well. Thus, with Imagine he shifted towards the safety of mainstream music. As John himself pointed out, Imagine was Plastic Ono Band with sugarcoating on it. Why did he care so much what people thought about his music? The same "trend" continued through out his later career.

I find that disappointing. An artist should not care so much about popularity.

That is how I see it, of course

Walls & Bridges is pretty good. I used to think it did n´t stay together well as an album. Then, about 5 years ago it occurred to me that it should be listened as wAlls & Bridges. As in, A-side is Walls and B-side is Bridges. My view of the album changed completely after realising that. It made much more sense.
It´s not a masterpiece and nowhere near as good as the harrowing Plastic Ono Band, but I think it is the second best Lennon solo album.

The other albums have some great songs, but I think they fall short as albums. In fact, I believe Menlove Ave. is my third most played "Lennon solo album".

As DavidMahler and T.IIZUKA pointed out, I also think Double Fantasy and Milk&Honey have lot of wonderful songs.

I made Play List.
And, it was reproduced many times.
This Play List is very good though two albums were heard many times.
Thank you.

I voted for - Imagine. Living in New York City, every baseball game and sporting event ends with Frank Sinatra's - New York, New York. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I understand. Every time I hear it, it's like being hit on the head over and over again with a sledge hammer. This city is an amazing place to live but subtlety is not one of its strong suits. If I had my way, I would make "Imagine" New York's theme song. The whole world knows about the corruption on Wall Street and maybe many others know that New York City is made up of extreme wealth and extreme poverty. I think it is the least egalitarian city in the U.S., and the gap is widening every day. I know it is wishful thinking, even to the point of being Pollyanna-ish, but I wonder if a song like "Imagine" could change people here for the better. Just a thought.
