Just interested in the cost ratio of Amp vs. Source, don't care about price. Mine is:

Home setup

Source: 55%
Amp: 45%

Portable

Source: 63%
Amp: 36%

Formula used:

Amp cost /(AMP cost + Source cost ) = amp ratio
Source cost /(AMP cost + Source cost ) = Source ratio

Currently:
Source: 60%
Amp: 40%

Next, I'm going with the 2007 Micro Stack, so it's gonna be 50/50.

Figures are MSRP though, not current second-hand prices.

Well my home rig (Headroom Desktop Balanced) the Source and Amp are in one unit so I guess it depends how you want to split the costs up.

My portable rig is a iMod Photo and Mini^3 so its about 2.5:1 (Source:Amp)

1:1 would be a good estimate.

Amp / Source : 3 / 1

I like my source and sticking to it until I get an Opus and go balanced

1:1 for me.

Source: 32%
Amp: 68%

Those figures might get swapped by the time I'm "done". Hopefully I've found a new hobby before that ever happens.

Perhaps even more informative would be Headphones, Amp, and Source. Divide by everything added together.

but the better question is what should the ratio be.

Right now 1:1
since D1 is the only headphone DAC/AMP I have.

But compared to my old Yamaha AMP,
I have no idea why I would spend $300 for these?

I think that's totally arbitrary. There's no if you have x source, you should spend $y on z amp, or vice versa, formula.

Amp: 66%
Source: 33%
