I bought my first headphone amp in/around 1996.Before that I used the headphone output on my preamp or integrated or cd player. I was surprised how much better the amps sounded. That started my amp obcession. Here is my amp history:

1 audio alchemy hpa v 1.0
2 mccormack micro headphone drive
3 creek obh-11se
4 headphone jack sony c555es sacd player
5 headroom maxed out home on the way

Of these I have had the audio alchemy the longest and I still use it at work. I liked the mccormack the least,to lean sounding. The jack on the sony is closed in sounding but somehow still enjoyable. The creek was very balanced and smooth sounding but I sold it to upgrade further, hence the maxed out home.

1) I built a Cmoy amp with Meier crossfeed
2) I built an Apheared CHA 47
3) Creek OBH-11
4) OBH-2 power supply
5) MG HeadDT
6) A bunch of tubes
7) 2001 HeadRoom Maxed Out Home
8) 2001 HeadRoom Max
9) I built a META42

Everything has been sold or traded except my original Cmoy, CHA 47, META, and my Max.

1. Melos SHA-1
2. Modified ASL MG-Head DT

I'm downright spendthrift by everyone else's standards

My first headphone amp was puchased in 2001, I evidently am on some sort of quarterly amp buying cycle!

1. Grado RA-1
2. JMT Built CHA47
3. JMT Built CMOY w/ Meier Crossfeed (Sold to a Bass Player friend for use as a practice amp with headphones, works great for this application with Sony 7506's).
4. EarMax Pro now tubed with Telefunkens
5. Grace 901 (If forced to give up all amps but one, this is what I'd keep. It is the only amp that can correctly run every headphone I have, and that built in DAC trounces the DAC in the DV47A)
6. JMT Built META42
7. RKV Mark II (running only AKG1000's and HD600's until impedancer arrives)

Judging from this website: http://www.fuchsaudiotechnology.com it looks like the mighty Zeus may be resurfacing!

Assuming this thread is only about dynamic headphone amps, here is mine. Bold items are still owned as per JMT:

1. Corda HA-1 (now heavily modified by KurtW)
2. ASL MG Head OTL (technically ordered first, but Corda arrived first)
3. AudioValve RKV II
4. McCormack Micro Integrated Drive
5. Sugden Headmaster
6. CMOY variant (work-in-progress; just for learning's sake)

1. AirHead
2. Corda HA-1 on order
3. ? I refuse to upgrade until the last one ordered arrives.

BTW tanfenton, by the standards on this addictive forum, a mere 2 amps most definitely does not make you a spendthrift!

JMT-built CHA47 in PacTec case
JMT-built CHA47 in Altoids Peppermint tin
JMT-built CHA47 in Altoids Cinnamon tin
JMT- built CHA47 in Penguin tin

JMT-built cmoy in plastic case
A few more JMT amps in assorted tins
Grado RA-1
Earmax Pro
Sugden Headmaster
JMT-built META42 in black plastic case

Homebuilt CMOY: $10 (Ahh, great times buying parts in Eastern Europe. Everything's dirt cheap)
MG Head (sold)
Little Loaner for a month

Now: Home-built Meta42

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the meta will be it for the next 2 years, at least until I get into college. . .
