I want to know because there is a calculator on one of the sponsors sites that calculates dB of headphones and it needs, efficiency of headphones, impedence of headphones and the voltage of the output, and I don't know the iPod's output (4th G. iPod btw).

This may not answer your question, but I think the ipods put out about 50-60 milliwatts of power. If you know the sensitivity of a pair of phones you can estimate the sound pressure level at full volume.

I honestly don't know but I would think that 50-60 mW is very high. Flash players that I have looked at are between 12-20 mW so 50-60 mW would be huge. If I knew for certain that the iPod had say 60 mW of output and I knew what amperage that 60 mW was at then I would know voltage, but like you said 50-60 mW is a guess, so....

Anybody have a clue on the voltage output of the iPod 4th G.; I would also like to know the mW output.

iPod has 30mW per Channel

If you need it, I believe youu can get a stronger signal from line-out to connect to hefty headphones (can anyone correct me on this). But you standard headphone may be damanged by line-out ...

Hey, I already answered my own question took a double male ended 3.5mm cable and my dads voltmeter and found out that my iPod (4th G. - 40GB) belts out 1.110v Max RMS.

This is not to get a roughage going, but I searched and found nothing in the way of 4th G. manual or info on its voltage output.

This is a scary thought...but what if vast areas of the web are not indexed by anything, nor linked by any pages? There's a wealth of information out there, but nothing is able to point us there. They are just information, sitting there, without being accessed...

That is no doubt happening to a degree. Somebody someplace has a webpage that knows what it is talking about and it just isn't linked to. It just isn't in the top 100 results at google or yahoo and nobody hardly if ever reads it. Deffinitly going on, but ipso facto not being discovered.
