For those of you who don't know The Good Guys, they are a consumer electronics chain (a'la Circuit City) in California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada that was recently, I believe, purchased by CompUSA. They sell the normal consumer grade stuff...Sony, Bose, Phillips, Yamaha, Denon, etc.

They have now added a couple of Music Hall products to their line. They are selling the Music Hall MMF-5 turntable on their website, and have the Music Hall Mambo integrated amp in one of their catalogs.

Oh the humanity....

Aw, JMT. Think of it as a part of the vinyl revival. And what's wrong with bringing a taste of the high end to the masses (and especially more easily to us audiophiles). It's a good thing. Trust me.

Now I gotta go check out the price!

You've never been to NYC have you? A local store here called J&R has a whole line of Music Hall gear, including turntables.

Well, that's certainly an improvement over Orlando. All we have is a Sound Advice. They have practically nothing except speakers and HT recievers, along with overpriced car audio stuff. Their best headphones (which they tout quite heavily) are the Bose Triports. Bleh.

Imagine that..... well as it happens I went to a local radioshack in my town today and they didn't even had the two 9 volt battery connectors I needed.
I would be very suprised to see actually MORE stuff appearing in these stores instead of the ever reducing stocks they keep.

I know that The Good Guys stock the lower end Velodyne subs, and the Magnolia Hi-Fi near me sells some Martin Logans and Sonus Fabers....so maybe I shouldn't be so shocked.

But I am.

JMT, that kinda weirds me out too.

BUT, let's think of this as an enlightenment of the masses. Don't we want more people to be able to appreciate the splendor of *real* high end audio, and not the consumer grade crud?

I wouldn't mind an MMF-5 myself....if i wasnt broke into the next century.

I'm confused. $600+ for a belt-driven turntable? Wouldn't a direct-drive be better... or are belt-driven and direct-drive the same? I've been out of vinyl so long I can't remember.
