This is a really boring thread, but I cannot find definitive information on this question. There are indications that the stock battery is 600mah or 700mah in different places, but I cannot find an Apple statement of the rating. Vinnie from RWA actually thought the stock was 850mah, but I have not seen that anywhere.

There are replacement batteries available that are 850mah and I am wondering if that is larger and how much of a difference that is likely to give when listening to lossless files on my about to be iMod. Some sites say their replacement batteries play X% longer than stock, but I am still unclear on what stock is. My battery has been good and relatively strong, so I don't want to change for no good reason.

Thanks for any info you might have.

That is good information, thanks. Do you know what the stock battery was rated at?

If anyone cares, it would seem that the stock battery in the 80GB iPod is an 850maH battery, which is the largest capacity battery that can fit in the case without breaking the screens (according to one of the replacement battery suppliers who tried to cram 950maH batteries in there). Moral of the story for me is that I cancelled my order for an 850maH replacement because it seemed pointless even though they claimed their 850maH battery got longer use time than Apple's.
