I am looking to buy a stereo soundcard (not interested in 5 or 7 channel or whatever)

What is the best soundcard money can buy, does anyone have any ideas?

A good DAC with USB input can be the best stereo sound card.

Pretty much what fjf said: some kind of external DAC that supports USB like the Stello DA100, PS Audio Digital Link III, Benchmark DAC1. You can also get yourself a S/PDIF transport device like the M-Audio Transit or Audiphile, which will allow you to virtually any DAC.
