Honky is just . . . well um . . honky. Crap I can't explain it. It's one of those "you'll know it when you hear it" kind of thing.

Zowie, guess you watched the worst moments in metal thing on VH1. Mr. Boone is a horrid, horrid man. "Holy Diver" . . .

You know when you talk into a cup and your voice comes back strange sounding? To me that's what honky sounds like, but just to a lesser degree. It's as if you are getting plastic sounding resonance and reverberation. Maybe that's what's happening, I don't know.

Thats what i think it means. The sound you kinda get when you put your hands over the grados. It gets thin and honky sounding. It is a weird sound that comes from sound bouncing off plastic or metal IMO. The coffee can sound is what i think of when i hear it.

I'd define honky as (upper) midrange emphasized in combination with nasal coloration.
