What is better, the E7/E9 or the E17/E9?

This is my first post on here, so bear with me.
 
I would be using the E9 aspect of the combo with my HP dv6 laptop and when on the run I would undock my E7 or E17 to use with my iPod Classic with a LOD cable. I have a few headphones I would use with this. I have the ATH-M50s, the Klipsch Image S4, and (don't shoot me) the Beats Studios. These seem to be the most talked about amps, so if you could please just keep it limited to these combos, I would greatly appreciate it.

well, the e17 is the newer and highly updated version of the e7 so the e9/e17 would be the 'better' choice.  You have to decide if the improvements are important to you.  The combination offers a modular set up with lots of options which is nice.  The e17 is much more powerful than the e7 and the e9 can power about anything (though you really don't need that much power for your selection of head phones).  the e17 also has a better designed DAC and can go to 24/192 and does COAX and Optical and....

Please keep in mind that the E90K is also out. It is an update to the E9 that fixed some usability and ergonomic issues and was "designed" to play nice with the E17 more than the E9.
 
The E17 is of course superior to the E7.
 
The E90K should offer very little to no sound difference over the E9 and the MSRP is the same price for both. It is basically an update to some issues that plauged the E9.

Maybe just get the E17 and skip on the E9.
