Good quality (lineout ability or dock optional but nice for future amp)
Minimal sound signature so the amp and headphones will be the sound signature cause
Durable
Easily Available
Not a brick sized and weight object

I am somewhat against ipods but they seem like they might be the best choice

x2 !

Headphone sounds great -- with or without an amp. It even sounds pretty great to me => Hornet => HD600, and they're picky headphones!

Size is just fine - unless you want to exercise and a big hdd player really won't do.

Tons of features, great battery life. What more do you want?

Solid as a brick. (I've even dropped mine 2-3 times before from like a few feet.)

iMod is considered a high end source and should deliver slightly(?) better sound. Still, though, X5L sounds incredible. And who wants another iPod?

How is the UI like how is it organized? Similar Media player fora pc?

I will probably get the X5L version also... yea i dont really want a ipod... it does have line out right?

Also... how is support.. though I will probably get through newegg/amazon.

This is the player that made me think "hey, I don't need a portable amp anymore". Rockbox the sucker and it's dang near perfect, aside from shorter battery life.

I'm actually not sure if you can navigate by id tags or not. I have a funny feeling it is a glaring omission from the feature list, but I've never even tried. I'm perfectly happy navigating my folder structure. Some folks have suggested the UI is cumbersome, but I don't really feel that way.
