What is a "fun" headphone?

I don't think that coloured and lack of detail have anything to do with eachother.

This is precisely why I used the word "correlated." I didn't want to imply that colour and detail were necessarily related or functionally related.

Yes I understand you, bad recordings will sound more fun on a less detailed can.

Agree. Detail is more about the technical competence of the headphone, colour is more discriptive of the sound signature or "flavour". And to some lots of detail might = fun, but to others lack of detail might =fun. A more neutral flavour might =fun and others a more coloured sound =fun

A headphone can't "be" an emotion, it along with the music might evoke an emotion (if it doesn't, change your fon or get different music)

For me, a fun headphone is one that inspires me to listen to music. Depending on the time of day and my mood, that may be the EP630, the AD700, or the K701. Lately at home, it's been the K701.

Fun headphones typically emphasize some element of the frequency range in order to create a certain sort of sound as opposed to a headphone which attempts to be as neutral as possible. For example, many Grado phones are created to really bring out the key aspects of Rock music. A Denon has an emphasized bass.

"Fun" headphones may occasionally get 'poo-pooed' among some of the neutrality chasers, but honestly, I see no downside to 'fun' headphones. It's all about what sounds good to your ears. There's no purpose in spending crazy money on headphones because someone said they are the definition of neutrality and when you listen to them, you fall asleep because they are so boring.

Fun Headphones. Whatever gets you wanting to grab whatever is in sight and start jumping like a lunatic while doing air guitar moves with massive head bangs, wishing you had longer hair.

oh yeah...me too on that!
fun to me means: a set of cans that are not nesecerely have the most accurate sound(like the akg701) but rather adds a bit of colour to the sound, some extra bass and sparkle(like the denon ah-d5000).
ofcourse it's a matter of preference, but i always understood the term "fun" in those meanings. for another, fun can be the most accurate cans in the stock,as dull as it may be.
