What is a "fun" headphone?

Interesting. To me (according to the definitions here) the K701 is immensely fun. But then, maybe I don't know how to have fun!

Nothing is as fun as the RS-1. Even if neutrality is your thing, you should have a pair handy. Get a second job or sell something to get the money. They're worth it.

I guess I tend to think the SR-60 was the most fun in the typical sense of inaccurate but groovy.

but of course, the latest phones I got is usually the most fun, in the sense that I want to listen to it day and night and on all kinds of music

When I am having fun I have a smile on my face. So by that very simple definition, I would say that my AKG K1000s, STAX Lambda Pros, and Grado SR-225s are certainly fun, since when I am listening to them I am smiling like the Cheshire Cat.

A fun headphone has to be cheap: i.e. under $100. If it costs as much as a top-of-the-line Grado then I'd say it was a serious headphone. Moreover, it's got to be involving on at least one style of music, but probably not classical or jazz. Finally, I'd say that you have to be at least a little guilty when you put down your reference headphone to listen to it.

A fun phone would be one so colored as to have an involving presentation. Eg, RS-2s vs 701s in my case. Both a refreshing respite form the other for their differences and contrasts ;-}
