Suppose the manufacturer of your specialty cable gets drunk at a party, and unknowingly admits on video that his entire business is a fraud. He laughs about how he just made up all the claims and marketing copy and can't believe that people are stupid enough to fall for it. Then he laughs about some of the reviews he's read and thinks it's hilarious that people take his products seriously.

If that happened, would you still believe your cable makes a difference?

Suppose a scientific breakthrough occurs where it is clearly demonstrated that cables do make a difference. That a method of testing is developed that allows cables to be evaluated for their sound signature and newer, better cables to be developed.

However, this new test shows that about 50% of the cables on the market are frauds just put out there so the manufacturer can make money.

Suppose the cable you own is scientifically proven to be one of the fraudulent models.

If that happened, would you still believe your cable makes a difference?

This is a test of the emergency broadcast system. This is only a test. In the event of an actual emergency, the sounds of the dead horse being beaten repeatedly with a large stick would have been followed by actual information, news or instructions. This concludes our test of the emergency broadcast system. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

I never believed that cables made a difference. I buy copper strands (cheap!), twine them together and use heatshrink on it. 20 strands for each channel and 28 for ground. Compared to more expensive cables. Difference? What difference? Uber precise technology might detect differences, but that would be way beyond the human detection limits. Just like HDMI cables and power conditioners.

I believe this is the Science forum, not the debate forum. Part of science is speculation, but the speculation must lead to experimentation or testing of some sort...this thread is going nowhere.

ROFL Moby Dick.
Anyway I've always wondered, why doesn't some 3rd lab test different cables? I'd like to see some freq. responce charts 'n such.

hook me up with some rca->bnc (or n-type) adapters and some expensive cables and i'll do some tests.

.

i'm a person that'll buy cables up to around $100, but no more. i think it could be proven that "higher quality," more expensive cables could provide better isolation from noise. how much (EM) noise that would be necessary to make an audible difference would be an interesting fact...

While I didn't capture it on video - this did happen to me. I won't say who or with what, so don't ask or PM me about it.

Did I lose the faith or belief? Kinda hard to lose something you didn't have already.

I don't think many of the wires on my rig exceed your limit by much. I did a rough estimate and my wires cost me about 4% of the value of my system. I did not buy any of them new.

I don't think I'll be seeing Bob Crump at any parties anytime soon. If I did I'd have greater concerns than what he had to say about his power cords.

BTW Love "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"....one of my favorites, actually. My favorite cut on the album, "Oh Comely," has a haunting beauty that is very difficult to describe to anyone who has not heard it. Is Jeff Mangum still making music?

isn't the point, there is no testing lab, no unifying standard, no science, in the cable market.

why do you think dbx is banned in all other forums? because when done it destroys the entire basis for selling so many things 'audiophile'

If so happened then I might have to reconsider...

UNCLE ERIK, There sure would be some RED FACES in the Industry and I'm including all the audio rags that support such "CABLES" $$$$$values....I made all of my power cables and most of my I.C.s and most were copied from the "real deal" that we ripped apart to find out what was so special and why the big bucks?????? I don't need to tell you what we found, I think you know, but I built my power cords for about 85 bucks using all top shelf parts!
