I paid less for the HD580 I used to own than a new AD700...

Your best bet is an AD700 if you are not running an amp setup. While there are other options that will sound considerably better with an amp, the AD700 is not a bad headphone for the money, the bass is not boomy at all, making them a good choice for classical music.

The HD580 are seriously a good pair of cans, well, considering if you're not comparing them from a bookshelf/loudspeaker/anything of higher end point of view. Haha.

Maybe I should rephrase.

You *GENERALLY* get what you pay for.

I personally find the AD700 nice for casual listening, some female pop, some not-so-serious casual listening sessions, yea they sound quite good. The major turn off was during some slight bit more serious listening session I find that some double bass/traditional drums/bass violins sounded a bit too lean that what it would in real life. Other than that, I do agree its plenty worth it.

K701 + musical fidelity xcanv8. Caution: use a good dac/cd player as source. K1000 and K501 known to have better tonal accuracy, but only available used.
