Hello everyone,

since a few weeks i own a FiiO x5 + e12a Amp.
I am so happy that i made this decision because the sound is amazing!
I own:

ATH-m50x
Bose Quietcomfort 20i (in ears)
Final audio design heaven IV (in ears)

Im happy with this but i have a feeling im undervaluing my x5+e12a.
I have the feeling i can get a way better sound out of this thing with better headphones.

I am not looking for in-ears since i believe that headphones sound better any day of the week.
The options that seem apealing to me:

Audio technica ATH-m70x
Sennheiser urbanite XL
Sennheiser momentum 2nd generation (not the wireless one)
Sennheiser HD600

Or should i stay with my m50x?

I listen to alot of heavy metal (behemoth, amon amarth, insomnium etc). And i also listen to alot of electronic music like Aphex twin, infected mushroom etc.
The problem with this kind of music (especially the heavy metal) is bass. The bass guitar is very overwhelming in alot of heavy metal.
I want a really clear sound but i am completely lost in the headphone world.

What do you guys think would be a good choice for me to maximize my x5?
If you guys think that there is a headphone thats not in the list i made but is definitely better please tell me!
Im open to everything! and i really dont care about looks.
I just want it to be over ears.

My budget is around $400.

Thanks in advance!

As this is for use with the FiiO X5, do you need headphones that are more portable or is this for just using around the home or other?

  Thanks for the fast reply!
Its for usage at home and walking my dog. so I wont use it when I'm at the train or at uni. its really for home usage.

About the best deal you could get on nice sounding headphones.
Audio Technica ATH-W1000X, USA retail price for new is $600.
Here are used ones for around $300

Really easy to drive, so using the E12 is optional.

If they do not come with the factory 1/4 F to 1/8 M adapter, here is one.

Thanks for your time! Id rather not use used headphones but thanks for the suggestion.
if you had to buy new ones with $400. What would you buy?

Have no idea, never thought about buying new headphones in the $400 range.
I'd rather buy used.

Actually they do ship to Holland. the problem is that i pay around 80 euros of import costs which i don't have.

You live in Europe, you must really like paying taxes.

Maybe a SoundMagic HP150?
I've never used it myself, but does seem to be liked by those that own it.
