Hello. I bought a used ATH A900x and a new dimension began as music listener. :)

Does anyone have any headphones they'd like to recommend? I'm looking for over ear, closed headphones that aren't more than $250. I'm looking at AT m50s right now or maybe the over ear v moda.

Many on this forum were not around when I got my Yamaha HP-1s. Around 1975 I think, were incredibly dry and brittle, but full of never before heard detail. One hundred dollars back then.

I started out with Koss Pro4a in the early '70s, but did not find real resonance with any headphones until the Sennheiser HD-600s with a decent cord and amp.

In early 70s went to a hi-fi fair in Olympia London (think it was). Was only a kid and with the Koss Pro-4aa felt like putting on a hard and heavy rubber diving helmet

Remember I liked the feel of a Sonab headphone. Guess it must've been this :

First headphone bought for self was five to ten years down the line; a budget (<£15) Sennheiser HD410 :

I bought JVC HAM5X first and it is still powerful bassy headphone. I saved most of my money to invest in AKG Q701. AKG Q701 is something really special to me and I still love them to death. Sadly, I'm selling it at the beginning of new year due to my financial problems :rage:. If I have a chance, I'll buy it again.

Beyerdynamic DT880, it got me searching for a different sound signature, as I wasn't the biggest fan of the DT880's, esp. after the wood cup mod..

Two pairs: My first all the way back was K501. But what got me looking for more choices was that my K501 was later destroyed in a flood and it had since been discontinued. I bought K702, and its weaknesses motivated me to try other models. So it was both K501 and K702.

Not a headphone at all for me as it happens! Was the venerable Galaxy S i9000, I still remember the massive difference in SQ after installing the Voodoo Sound mod... That was what opened my eyes to the rabbit hole, which I have now spent something like $20,000 exploring (feel like I'm starting to get a handle on the deeper parts of the rabbit hole now).

Sony MDR-G56 on ear

Sure, they don't look like much and cost $25, but I used to drive these from an old portable CD player with a lot of power and they were magical. Really started my whole love of music. When the CD player finally went kaput, the replacement unit didn't have enough power to drive them (you could feel the lack of thump from the drivers) and the end sound suffered. I'm tempted to try them with one of my headphone amps. That old pairing sounded better than some of the expensive pairings I've tried recently.
