What headphones are still very good un-amped?

Grado's seems to play nice with built in amplifiers (unamped as you call it).
The RS1 being one of them.

Go for the AD700 over HD280 Pro. They sound better and are way more comfortable and they sound just as good unamped as the HD280.

Have you looked at Ebay for a nice CMoy? Biosciencegeek sells them for $50 and I think charges around $15 for international shipping. I haven't heard it yet, but it seems to be well built with good components. Mine should be arriving soon.

I might actually buy that! It is actually a good deal on a Cmoy from an international seller! Thanks for that Rex. If I were to buy that I might buy some Grado's. For anyone reading, does anyone have good experiences with a Cmoy/Grado combination?

You can't beat the AD700s when consider the price, comfort, unamped and neutral sound (good for any genre of music) and well quality. AD700s, if they are to be your only headphone.

they do sound "fuller" to my ears amped, but its a very small difference.
I have not got much to compare to tough.

Nine times out of ten if someone asks for unamped heaphones, price is an issue - not that there is anything wrong with that.

Audio-Technica ATH-AD700, one of the best deals around for full-size HPs. Good Luck.

Well, since no one mentioned them, i'd like to bring up my unamped faves: the DT250.

Of course they have those "don't steal me, I'm ugly" Beyer styling, so most younger head-fiers shy away.
