I currently own AD700's but I've been toying with the possibility of upgrading to something Mid-Fi. I listen to a lot of Metal and Electronic so my current issue with the AD700's is it's lack of bass. I've narrowed down possible candidates to the following:

- Denon D2000 (heard they have bass and are good in general.)
- AKG K601 (I like these I don't know why.)
- ATH AD900 (I really like my AD700's sound signature and if the AD900 has good bass then I'm getting it for sure.)

But having heard none of them before, I am counting on Head-Fi to offer me suggestions on which cans would fit my needs. 8)

I'd say go with the D2000's ( big bass, mids slightly recessed, nice highs) I say recessed mids because some feel like the bass intrudes on the rest of the sound spectrum which pushes back the mids. If you get them and burn them in and think the bass is too overpowering do the markl mod. I did and i think it helped a lot. Brought out the mids and focused the bass and gave it more punch.

If you can, you should really come to the meet in Newport Beach. Bring some music and you'll be able to try out a variety of headphones.

As a bit of a dark horse, take a look at the Sony MDR-SA5000. It does well with metal and electronica - you might really like it.
