I am new to the headphone thing. I currently have a cec hd53 8.0 for amplification, a cec tl51xr cd player and grado sr225. I listen to all kinds of music but I am looking for a headphone that is great for rock at fairly loud volumes. The grado is great at lower volumes because it is so clear and revealing but I find the highs too fatiguing at louder volumes and frankly I need more bass.
I guess with certain bands I am a bit of a bass head. I have been looking in the direction of the senn hd650, denon d5000 or d2000, and possibly the new darth beyer v4.
I basically want a can that is non fatiguing when cranked with detail, transparency, and great bass that is deep, tight and pronounced. Is that asking too much?

I would be interested in a balanced HD650 with that amp since I've read the HD650 is best in a balanced set up. But I don't know if that would meet your need for great, deep, tight, and pronounced bass. I think an Ultrasone would more likely meet this criteria than the HD650; however I'd still be interested in the balanced HD650. I know nothing about the new darth beyer v4 (seems intriguing), and I don't know enough about the D2K or D5K to comment.

the AD2K's would be my recommendation as well, should you want detailed, extended bass

if you want more oomph, without getting too muddled, the HD650s balanced might be the way to go

The AD2000 is great for rock, but I've never seen it as a bass-head headphone. With my rig, it's bass is not more than RS1. I do not know how RS1 and SR225 differs in bass amount though.

At least for me when I crank up the volume, RS-1 becomes fatiqueing for my ears but not so with D5000's.

My favorite rock headphone was the RS-1 untill I got a pair of JVC DX-1000. Great, tight, driving bass. Lots of detail.
And a big, broad sound stage. Very comfortable and non-fatiguing. Over all, I prefer them not only to my RS-1s, but
also to my AKG K-1000s.

The Sennheiser HD-650 might work for you, but you'll need to pair it with a good amp.

Solid state is a bit out of favor these days, but it will deliver strong bass and detail at a price much lower than a comparable tube amp. Look around the For Sale Forum and see if you can't find a bargain.

ATH-AD2000 or the Denon 7000.
