...I cheap out and start using 75-ohm component video cables for interconnects?

Anything fun? Bad? Just gotta crank up the volume a little more?

Nothing. There's no such thing as 75 ohm rca, anyway.

Then why are all the RCA-terminated component video cables I've seen 75-ohm? Or S/PDIF cables for that matter?

Because that's what they're supposed to be. Not what they actually are. Impedance is determined by the physical dimensions of a plug. It's physically impossible for rca to be 75 ohm. The spec is 75 ohm so that's what they say when they try to sell you a video cable. BNC and F connectors are readily found in 75ohm size, which is why I suspect you see the relatively more "no nonsense" realm of video filled with bnc and f connectors.

Great. So there are no 75-ohm RCA plugs. I can believe that.

Now about the 6' of cable between each plug?

The cable may or may not be stiff. Who's to say that your regular nondescript audio cable isn't 75 ohms, anyway? They could be. There's no regulation.

Nobody says it isn't, except for adverts that claim it is. I don't really care one way or another as long as it doesn't make for perceptibly whacked-out sound and/or damage something.
This is one area of physics that just never really made much sense to me.

Thanks for the input.

You will die a horrible painful death.

Serious answer? You'll be fine. It may sound different but no more different than the difference between other cables.

I currently have a pair of them between my DVD player and my TV since I didn't feel like going through the trouble of making a pair just yet

They work just fine.
