I had senn 580's and the only thing i thought they were any good at at all, was piano. thats it. my cd3000's do everything else better, but the piano on my hd580's was much much more emotional and involving. only thing i enjoyed.

I really depends on your taste in music and the individual headphones in question. Making a blanked statement about a company's products as a whole is just silly, not to mention apt to be wildly inaccurate. For example, the HD580 and 600 are both very different headphones than the HD555 and 595.

thats not silly that all. if its silly then all of us in head fi are kinda silly. if folks normally say that senn phones are all rounders , they must have reason.

i wanted to read opinions of head fiers especially senn fans about what kind of music totally shines in senn for some brief information as i am getting hd650 so i wanted to find out more of the senn house sound.

and though hd555 and hd595 are different from hd600/hd650 , it still has a certain common senn house sound like wider soundstage , etc like akg tends to focus on mids, grado always has narrow sound stage

Not everyone at Head-Fi lumps a company's products into a single category, though. Some say that there's such a thing as the Sennheiser house sound, but you won't find many people saying that all Sennheisers basically sound alike. Not even Grados in general are all good at the same thing (the Joe Grados and John Grados are quite different, or so I hear)... you can only really make those comparisons within a single line.

Speaking from experience, I honestly don't think the HD595 has any more in common with the HD580 than with my other headphones. Actually, to be honest with you, I think my HD580 and DT880 are more alike than my HD580 and HD595. Of course, it may just be that I like the 580 and 880 but not the 595.

if thats the case, then what i meant is the hd580/hd600/650 line. sorry for the misleading title. i always thought they represent sennheiser in general.

hd595 to me is just a brighter hd600 well of course its subjective

I like the HD650 for classical orchestral and choral music. Their somewhat detached presentation seems to serve the large symphonic genres well, moving the listener back away from the performers. Conversely, chamber works can sound a little remote. Not my first choice for rock.

I used to think the hd580s were amazing for classical (compared to other headphones I tried), but they seem boring compared to my new speakers (which hit about the same pricepoint). I would not say I have heard piano done very well on any headphone or speaker so far.

I am convinced that they excel in music such as Pink Floyd.

It's all a matter of personal preference. I don't like them (HD580/600/650) for anything, really...at least on the systems I've tried.

If I had to pick, probably classical, jazz, and more slow-paced rock. HD650s on a good system deliver nice bass for hip hop/rap, too.

I do not like them for female vocals.

I don't think they really excel at anything the way a Grado 225 kicks butt on metal. My Senn 580's play many kinds of music well, but there's no one genre I've found to date where it clearly outperforms other headphones.

If I had to pick something, I'd say they're pretty good at Pink Floyd and other slower paced music with a spacious soundstage.

I think it is fair to describe the HD650's as "all-around" cans, because I haven't heard anything that they fall flat on their face with, nor anything they excel overwhelmingly with. They impart an easily likeable, if somewhat dull signature on everything they play, and have a big enough soundstage to satisfy most people. I think the reason they are so universally praised is that they are a jack of all trades that never offends, as compared to other cans that might be awesome with some music, less than ideal with other music.
