To experience without intention is to sense the world;
To experience with intention is to anticipate the world.
These two experiences are indistinguishable;
Their construction differs but their effect is the same.

LaoTze, extract from Chapter 1, The Way

Which translation do you have? I'v been meaning to get this at some point. Lots of amazing ideas in easter philosophy. In western culture there is often an over obsession with the poetry of language. In eastern culture language is often very simple and the poetry is in the ideas. So sublime, I wonder if some of those old chinese monks really do live for hundreds of years.

the bell can not be struck
without the hand knowing.

the tao can not be said.
but can be heard.
how is it that that which has no sound makes a sound?

the flute note becomes one with the wind.
the heart soars. desolate mind!

you may also like the writings (?) of Chuang Tzu, Joshu, Isan, Ma Tzu, Dogen, Rinzai, Hyakujo (my fav), Nansen and Kyozan.

I clap my hands
and with the echoes
it begins the dawn ---

"what does LaoTze have to say about audiophiles?"

idiots!
deaf ears!

a drop over the waterfall.
you cry over your own death.
and neither hear
nor see
nor feel
the river,
the waterfall,
the lake.

i only smoke weed
when i need to
and i need to get some rest
yo where's the sens
i confess
i burned a hole in the matress
yes yes it was me
i plead guilty
but at the count of 3
i pull back the duvet
make my way to the
refridgerator
1 dry potato inside
no lie, not even bread, jam
when the light above my head went bam

i can't sleep something's all over me
greasy insomnia please release me
and let me dream
about making mad love on the heath
tearing off tights with my teeth
but there's no relief
i'm wake awake in my kitchen
i'm cold and i'm lonely
oh if i could only get some sleep
