What does iPod stand for?

here is the thing, today my law teacher saw that one of my classmates had an ipod and she asked if anyone knows what iPod stands for. she promised 5 points on the test if we give her an answer. i am pretty sure that ipod doesnt stand for anything but i could be wrong. So does anyone know what ipod stands for or where the name came from?

to be honest, i am looking for both. i need serious because i have to give it to my teacher, but i am a VERY anti-ipod. i hate ipods and cant stand them so something funny will work too.

Its Apple's marketing - there is no reason, its just is. Actually, it would be nice to know how and why they came up with the name pod.

All I know is that a pod is like an external housing or a group of animals, like whales travel in a pod. Also pods may refer to little fruits or seeds.

I think the letter "i" in iPod prefix came from their other lines of products such as the iMac. Its sort of their trademark thingy.

i also thought "i" is just an apple thing like iMac, iTunes, iPod, etc. almost all of their software and hardware starts with an "i"
