What do you think of the V-MODA Vibe earbuds?

Now, I have never tried them. Also, I don't like small phones that cram into my ear; after 15 minutes I find them very uncomfortable. I am also skeptical about the bass of small earbuds - at what cost would they match some nice Grados?

After reading the glowing reviews on Amazon, I decided to ask some real experts.

Peace.

Search around and will you find the history of how the V-Moda sponsor pumped everybody up for them, people said how good they were, then the build (and sound) problems were eventually brought to light, and now most of Head-Fi will not recommend any V-Moda product.

To me, they are second to Skullcandy: all looks, no good sound. Yes I have tried the Vibes, and it destroys percussion like no other. I have never heard such recessed percussion; the drums sounded like various bass drums out of tune! I also got the Bass Freq model for free during Head Fest 2007, and after listening to them for a minute, I understand why they were given out for free.

Also, the cable of the Vibes (the right side, in many cases) is known to short out sooner or later, leaving people to do multiple RMAs.

The Vibes being my first IEMs and most expensive earphones (thankfully I got them for $60 on amazon), I thought the sound quality was pretty decent. Too bad the left cable just shorted today.

Looks like I need a new pair of IEMs now...

They were my first "real" headphones too and I loved them while I had them. Got them for $60 off amazon too but the first pair they sent me was defective and I had to send them back. Now that they're back up to $100 (I think) you might as well go for the Denon AH-C700 that are the same price if they're still going for 50% off on amazon.

For what it's worth I have a pair and still like mine. They've gone through so many design changes though it's hard to know what you're going to get with them. Supposedly sound quality is better now.

I'm just waiting for V-moda to reply to me on whether or not they'll replace my Vibes or not. The left cable at the metal piece where both cables meet started to fray somehow, and now I can't get any sound out of the left IEM. I hope they'll cover it, yet I'm doubting it, even though I've taken great care of them.

Unfortunately I signed up for this site around the time these phones were being hyped and I bought right into it and ended up purchasing a pair for $100. At the same time however I purchased a pair of KSC75s since they were universally well regarded by my older brother and he used this forum as a reference for recommendation.

Comparing the two side by side was terrible. I returned the Vibes after 2 weeks of use. I tried to justify them because I thought they were comfortable and convenient. But I couldn't get passed the fact that the KSC75s were only 15% of the price and sounded 3-4x better.

I guess they were a nice introductory phone and from that purchase I learned how to better identify quality sound.

IMO they don't look too good either, but I've never been a fan of carbon fiber.

X2...the UE Metros are excellent...and hands down better than the current generation of the Vibe.
