Which performs better? Carnere or Grado stock cable. I want to do a wire transpalnt/extension to my Grados, and am wondering if it is worth it. If not, please, give me suggestions on the type of wire.

The Grado cable is nothing special, and is an area worth some experimentation. (my opinion, not neccesarily fact) I have disassembled a pair of 60's with the intent of a cable upgrade and have not got around to buying the cable yet. I will be interested in getting your opinion if you go ahead with the mod.

I finished the project, which for me consisted of removing the stock cable and converting to a single left side wire instead of the damn Y cable. I used a 6 foot "rat shack gold" cable with 1/8 inch stereo plugs. I cut one end off and ran directly into the left earcup and then pushed a small stiff piece of plastic through the headband cover, taped a short piece of two conductor cable on to the plastic and pulled it through. End result is a single sided cable, 5 foot long. (I will take pics, if anyone wants to see them)

As to the sound- I definatly don't hear any loss of sound quality with the rat shack cable and I think the bass is actually tighter sounding now. The mids are unchanged and the treble is clear and extended. Maybe also a bit better. I think that a better cable could offer further refinement, and a star quad configuration would allow a Y cable to be made as an exact replacment, which would be alot less work then what I went through. Also, the original cable would be easy to re-install if the results don't please you.

Other cables to consider are reviewed here-
