Having just purchased $1100 of stereo equipment in the last 2 months with another $1000 to go yet I was just curious how those of you who have wives justify it all?? Not that I get reamed out but I'd like to know your thoughts and any tricks. Do you have the salesman make a dummy reciept with a lesser price? Do tell! It's not a hi-fi qustion I know but I'd like to know. Cheers.

Tell’em stand back and don’t touch!

I told my girlfriend that she really didn’t want to know what it cost and if she damaged it she’d be bummed out having to replace it since it cost so much.

I supported Melissa while she went to school to get her degree and sacrificed quite a bit in the way of toys to allow her the luxury of not working. So now that she is working and making her own money, she's a lot more flexible to how much I spend on my various hobbies. As long as I keep the bills paid and take some time away from studying and work to spend it with her she's not too worried about my expenses.

The way I figure it, if you and the misses have a solid relationship and she trusts that you wouldn't do anything TOO stupid (we are men after all and we ARE going to do some dumb stuff) then all is well. At the same time though, I wouldn't suggest leaving too many reciepts (aka evidence) laying around that lets her know that you spent $250 on a power cable when the one that came with your amp seemed to turn it on and off just fine (she may trust you but she's not crazy, at least not the same kind of crazy as us

).

Just keep in mind that the "nagging" you hear from time to time about the amount of $$ you spend on toys may actually be the voice of reason that you don't really want to listen to.

Strictly following those intelligence agenices 'need-to-know' basic principle.

Btw does this thread belong to members lounge or do we start to consider our wives as dedicated source components ?

My girlfriend bought an expensive looking rabbit fur bag at takashimaya, my brain quickly forgot the price, but I was amazed. It was in the "now I don't feel so bad for spending 20,000 yen on headphones" kinda price range.

She can also sing at karaoke, it's amazing.

when you are hung like a horse like I am, you don't have to worry about your wife saying anything

Seriously, just divide by two when she asked how much something cost. Unless, she sees the bill, then your screwed.

Heheheh. So, true. As novelist Graham Green said, the key to a happy marriage is a little tenderness and a lot of white lies.

Arrgh ... thread moved ! It was so properly put under equipment category. =)

Another strategy to consider, divert her attention from $1000 equipment investigation with small talk of that newly hired darn cute girl in your office. Works like charm.
