What are the little quirks about your headphones that you like but can never explain to those "normal" people out there.

This thread is inspired by me trying to explain "sound stage" to a co-worker today who was mocking me and the massive cans that I don during work. While doing this, I noticed that the sound stage is so wide on the 3ks that I can actually make myself dizzy by moving the posistion on my ears rapidly. It actually jacks with my equalibrium.

Also, the sound stage sounds so far out, and away from my head, that if I put my hands up to the side of the headphones I feel wierd for a second because I fully expect that to change the sound. I think this means my brain is tricked into thinking the sound is coming from way outside the headphones.

So things I love about my headphones that normal folk don't understand are:

1. Hearing page turns in symphonies.
2. Making myself feel almost dizzy by moving sony 3000's around.
3. Fooling my brain into thinking I should be able to manipulate sound outside my headphones.

Then again, maybe I'm just crazy.

Hmmm... 6N-OFC cable? How do you explain that "six nines" refers to the purity of the copper in the cable and not something unmentionable in polite company?

Or how about if you mention a problem with your can's diaphragms, and the supermarket clerk asks if you'd like to know where the pregnancy test kits are?

When I tell my co-workers I own not only a $145 set of headphones, but a $70 one too they think I'm nuts. Then I tell them about headphones amplifiers and they just shake their heads. Maybe one day I need to bring in my Beyers and my amp and they will understand...

Like Biggie I try not to talk about headphones to most people. I mean come on, they think that their headphones that came with their PCDP sound as good as a pair of CD3Ks running off an RKV, so why even try to talk to them about anything else? If they ask or are curious I'll try to educate them in how things sound by pointing out some things as they listen to music. Otherwise ignorance is bliss.

And unfortunately, none of us are ignorant.

VERY unfortunate of us. Man, a year after stopping in here to look for a Christmas gift replacement for my Creek look where I am. Sheesh, I better stay away from the other sites that promote full-sized rigs for speakers.

A wise decision. Once I get a house I fear I'll get into audio more than I already am.

People like us are cursed. I'm into headphones and cars. And the enthusiast crowd for both ain't cheap! I can blame sights like this!

Why oh why must it always be better, faster, cooler and more fun!?!

Oh but who am I kidding, I love it.

I know. Most frequent question: How many headphones do you need?!

Plus when I tell my coworkers how much I "invested" in that tangle of wires sitting on my desk, meager setup tho it may be, they say, "What?! You're crazy man." Sad thing is, it's only about $700..

And in answer to the original thread question, I like how it sounds better than the crap THEY call headphones.

I'm thinking of actually making my own headphone cable (and get rid of the one on the end of my A500's, that's an XLR or something like that, I was thinking BNC, but that's a little too weird, although I'm going to put XLR male for Left and XLR female as right on the speakers I'm building so it's real easy to set up

Actually, what I like about headphones is exactly that other people don't understand. No, I'm not trying to be elitist, it's just that...I know I have very particular tastes, when it comes both to music and to fidelity. I like the fact that I can achieve both goals without bothering anyone else. There's just a certain freedom that I feel. I don't think there's anyone else hearing what I hear, and judging me, based on my tastes. Positioning with speakers is just too hard. I'm too "Type A" to deal with it. Headphones, you just put 'em on, and you got top notch fidelity, you don't have to think about it no more (unless it's the K1000 or the R10, then you have to position them more correctly).
