Hi I am thinking of getting a cheap portable headphone amp and it seems that PA2V2 is the cheapest one out there in the market. It does seem popular but the reviews are a bit scant so was just wondering what you guys in the forum view it. The consensus seems to be that it's a good entry level amp which does improve bass but not much else.

I formerly owned the PA2V2, and used it to power my first cans, the Grado SR60s. The difference was subtle, and as you stated, was most noticeable in the bass. You don't say what you are going to use with the amp, so it's a little tough to say much. Introducing an amp will not, in my experience, produce the same "wow" factor as a headphone or source upgrade. What is your related equipment?

Hi guys thanks for the feedback. I just got myself a pair of Goldring DR150s and it's been quite an impressive performer, although I must say I am pretty new in the audio scene. I mainly plan to use the PA2V2 with my Sony NW-HD5 mp3 player, and am also planning to try it out on my PC with an Audigy 2 ZS. On first impressions it does seem to give a warmer sound when used on my PC, but I have to listen to it a few more times.

The PA2V2 is a wonderful amp. For about $60 you get a very small amp (which is what portable’s all about), life time warranty, Gary’s impeccable customer service and a wallwort. The PA2V2 recharges as it plays and that charge lasts about 100 hrs. Far too much is made here over the subtle distinctions between cheap portable amps. This is all well and good if you're establishing your HeadFi bona fides, but if you're here just for some good quick advice, buy Gary's amp and be thankful you escaped with most of your wallet intact.

Nicely put, I have always enjoyed this little amp. A lot of bang for the buck.
