Well my high school graduation is coming up in May and I'm one of those people that don't know what they want.

Seriously I would appreciate if you guys (and gals) could throw around some ideas.

I'm into graphic art so I was thinking maybe a new desktop computer, but the collage I'm going to has plenty labs with high end computers.

ahh please help!

I'd say your headphone collection could do with some growth...

Probably the best would be a macbook or some sort of apple notebook. I find laptops are really nice at college. It's a great aid when you're working with people, having a cup of coffee, or attending a really boring lecture

Yeah, I'd go with computer or headphones.

Perhaps your school has great workstations, but having an extremely portable yet powerful macbook pro will let you exercise your artistic skills in a completely free and mobile environment ;p

When I graduated I got top of the line parts and built myself a desktop... sure labs are handy to have around, but computing to your heart's desire in your room/your place of habbitation really is important to me ;p

no, dont get a macbook. Everyone has a macbook. Get something smaller and cooler like a Dell Latitude D420 or a Thinkpad x60.

No, do get a macbook pro, for the sole reason of Mac OS X. I'm an expert user, computer science classes at the local college, and I switched so I don't have to reinstall windows every few months. Much more reliable, and enables more creativity. Plus the backlight keyboard is the shi*s!

All that time you spent reinstalling windows should have been spent learning linux.

If you want to go into CS, knowing how to use linux will help you a lot more than staring at a shiny keyboard. Besides, its a lot more fun.

Well I don't think my parents will get a macbook pro. They said they could get a macbook because they said their limit is around $1000-1500.

But I also have generous grandparents and If I use the money they give me I could could a pro. But i'm not sure if it's worth the money or not.

I've never been to college so I don't know how much I would benefit from getting a notebook and I've been a desktop user all my life.

Also would it be an easy conversion from going from PC to mac?
How could I transfer my files from my 3.5" HD to a laptop HD?

Is their some way to kook up a 3.5" HD via usb port?

Also I don't think I would need a car in Chicago due to the fact the are a lot of transportation methods their.

How much you benefit is how much you feel like carrying around your laptop, I don't really feel like carrying around mine much anymore so I kinda stopped using it, it didn't really make things interesting and I never used it to take notes with *shrug* maybe you'll be different.
