Hello all, I am new on your forums, though I have been reading stuff here for a while, you know, like in the shadows and such.

My question is, if I wanted to get a portable music player + a pair of killer headphones (and an amp if it is really worth it), what would be the absolute best stuff I could get for 300 dollars? For 500? This would include the player, rewiring, headphones, and maybe an amp, as I dont mind it being bulky, if it fits in the ol' pockets. All I am looking for is the best sound quality and decent battery life. I dont need video features, or even a color screen.

iMod is out of the question, because that nearly maxxes out your whole budget.

If you didn't want an amp, I'd say the Zune, but a use for the *possible* line-out hasn't been found yet.
Where would you be taking your rig? (public transport/work/home/etc.)

For your budget I would go with a DAP that has a good headphone out like the zune and then spend the rest of your budget on headphones. You could get a VERY good sounding rig for $400-$500
